This Supernatural Story
Soderbergh pushes his directorial skills through this clever supernatural story captured wholly from the viewpoint of a ghost. As a family with Lucy Liu as Rebekah and her distressed teen Chloe occupies their fresh home, the camera – as the unseen entity – shadows their actions. The daughter appears sensing the ghostly being, and it looks like guarding her. However, the motive remains? It's a fun idea that remains concise, with a twist that could catch you off guard. This Creepy Thriller
Derrickson's contained scarefest stands strong even without a continuation. Located in 1970s Colorado, a series of disappearances has rendered the local kids on edge. When Finney is taken by the villain and locked up in a cellar, he dreads a terrible outcome. Yet the old telephone in the room keeps ringing, with eerie communicators providing assistance, as the intuitive nightmares from his sibling Gwen might rescue him. A genuinely scary movie. October 11th, nighttime, Film4
The Tammy Faye Biopic
In the conflict between faith and wealth, the winner is obvious for Mammon in Michael Showalter's delightfully tacky true story regarding the shamed TV preacher and her felon spouse. Andrew Garfield portrays the venal Jim, who proclaims early on, asserting religious justification for riches. Both individuals commence monetising the American public's Christian beliefs. It's a spectacle of bad interior design, excessive cosmetics and bad faith, though the lead actress succeeds to depict the real-life figure as a sympathetic figure. Tuesday 14 October, late night, Film4
